The Village Green Marsden
Re-developing the existing website of a community owned shop for improved accessibility and online ordering features.
The project
The Village Green is a community-owned & run grocer employing local staff with a clear sustainability and affordability mission at it’s core. The Village Green offers a boxed service with email and collect ordering. It also uses volunteers to deliver to those that are self isolating or vulnerable (C19).
Importantly, as part of it’s affordability mission, The Village Green service is not means tested and is available to all in the Marsden area.
Where
The Village Green is based in Marsden a large village within the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees district, in West Yorkshire, England. It is in the South Pennines close to the Peak District which lies to the south.
What they needed
The Village Green needs support to develop a more effective online shop and ordering service as well as a real overhaul of a heavily text based website to make it more accessible to customers.
The Village Green are also seeking to better differentiate between the services of the shop and the management/updates of it’s community shares model.
What we did
The website is being re-designed and additional functionality added in partnership with The Village Green and South Pennine Digital Towns CIC. The re-design and development is being carried out by South Pennines Digital Towns Kirklees Champion Christian Shannon.
We’re really pleased with how the project is progressing, and it will really help to improve community reliance, confidence and cohesion.
